Increasingly, cardiologists in the United States agree it may be time to more aggressively add safe, effective and inexpensive fish oils to the expensive drugs and more invasive standard mix of post-heart attack treatments.
Laurence S. Sperling, MD, associate professor of medicine at Emory University School of Medicine and director of preventive cardiology at the Emory Clinic in Atlanta, Ga, is among proponents of this treatment of prescribing omega-3 fatty acids to increase the odds of survival after a heart attack.
"Not only do I agree with this approach, the American Heart Association (AHA) recommends omega-3 fatty acids for those who do not have coronary heart disease,” Sperling said.
A Safe, Natural Approach to Heart Care
Since 2000, the AHA has recommended consuming fatty fish (such as salmon, herring, trout and sardines) or fish oil supplements because omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to reduce coronary heart disease mortality in those with coronary disease.

The AHA recommends that people with no known coronary heart disease eat fish, rich in omega-3 fatty acids, at least twice a week to reduce cardiovascular risk. The AHA also advises people who have existing heart disease to take fish oil supplements daily that contain the omega-3 fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).
ALTRUM Ultra Omega-3 (DUO) and Nutritional Oils (DNO) have 600 mg of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA per serving size, exceeding these recommendations.
According to the FDA, up to 3,000 mg a day of EPA and DHA from fish oil or marine lipids is generally recognized as safe.

As with any dietary supplement, check with your doctor before adding fish oil or marine lipids to your health regimen, especially if you have other chronic diseases and/or are taking medication. That said fish oil or omega-3-rich marine lipids can be a safe, effective, inexpensive and low-tech addition to the expensive, invasive and high-tech approach commonly used to treat heart attack patients in this country.

Earns National Organic Approval
AGGRAND Dealers now have access to a whole new niche market – organic food and crop producers. AGGRAND Natural Fertilizer 4-3-3 has been approved for use by certified organic food and crop producers nationwide.
“This is so good for our Dealers and for AGGRAND,” said Greg Sawyer, AGGRAND manager. “We’ve been working toward getting this approval for a number of years. Our ingredients pass the USDA-National Organic Program standards. We are approved by the Washington State Department of Agriculture, which we feel has some of the highest standards in the industry,” Sawyer said.
What does that mean for Dealers?
“It means AGGRAND Natural Fertilizer 4-3-3 can now be used by organic growers in all states,” Sawyer said. AGGRAND is also pursuing organic approval for AGGRAND Kelp and Sulfate of Potash 0-0-8, he said.
