Memory Focus’ B12 Helps Reduce Mental Decline

New research suggests running low on vitamin B12 could hasten mental decline. Published in November’s American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, a 10 year study tracked 1648 men and women aged 65 and older. Previous research indicated that B12 and folic acid – and other B vitamins – might help fend off Alzheimer’s disease. The new study found that a lack of B12 could diminish cognitive function. The researchers, led by Robert Clarke, of Oxford University, suggested that doubling B12 levels with supplements might slow such a decline by a third. *

B-complex vitamins are essential in more metabolic functions in your body than any other vitamin complex. B vitamins are water soluble and require daily replenishment. For this and other reasons, many people in the United States are B-vitamin deficient.

How do you determine B vitamin deficiency? Symptoms of B-vitamin deficiencies include lack of energy, depression, irritability, distressed nervous system and a host of other health-robbing conditions.

ALTRUM Ultra Multis provide a potent package of essential B vitamins in researched, balanced, energizing doses. They are grouped together because they naturally work together in the human body to ensure that complicated metabolic functions are carried out. The B complex in Ultra Multis is comprised of eight specific vitamin B nutrients for human health and vitality plus supporting nutrients.

Vitamin B1 (thiamin) – attaches to lead and helps eliminate it from the body; gives razor-sharp memory.

Vitamin B2 (riboflavin) – maintains health of the nervous system.

Vitamin B3 (niacin/niacinamide) – protects against depression and psychosis. B3 together with EFAs (such as EPA, DHA, ALA and GLA in Nutritional Oils) help regulate neurotransmitter hormones in the brain - used successfully in treating schizophrenia.  B3 helps detoxify excess Copper.

Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) – increase in memory, learning and cognitive abilities. B5 + choline improves memory.

Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) – essential for making neurotransmitters. Converts amino acids into Serotonin (an essential neurotransmitter hormone that is known for its calming and relaxing effect). (Also in Memory Focus) Deficiency of B6, creates irritability, violence and poor memory. Some 20 percent of depressed people are deficient in B6.

Vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin/methylcobalamin) – lack of B12 creates confusion and poor memory. Called the "thinking vitamin," studies indicate it supports good mental function (see article above).

Vitamin B9 (folic acid) – works with vitamin B12. It’s essential for oxygen delivery to the brain. Deficiency encourages anxiety and depression. New research shows deficiency linked to three times the risk of dementia. (Also in Memory Focus)

Biotin – helps produce ATP, a compound in the cells that is used for the storage and conversion of energy. Also helps in the formation of glycogen (storage sugar for future energy needs). Helps energize brain and generate mental motivation.

Choline – helps the formation of the “memory” neurotransmitter. Also supports the health of the brain’s nerve fibers. (DMAE is a nutrient in Memory Focus that converts to choline in the brain, enhancing a sense of well being, concentration, memory and mental sharpness.)

Inositol – used to treat mental illness, panic attacks and anxiety. Note: Choline and Inositol— See Ultra Multis, Upliftment Formula (for a “healthy state of mind”) and Lecithin.

Lecithin – has as major components choline and inositol (as phosphatides). Cell membranes that regulate which nutrients may leave or enter a cell are largely composed of lecithin. Without lecithin, a membrane would harden. Protective sheaths surrounding the brain and nerve cells are made from lecithin. Phosphatides are the chemical neurotransmitters in each neuron synapse, such as phosphatidylcholine. Lecithin is produced by the liver. (See ALTRUM Lecithin)

Manganese (Mn) – Protects the brain from overstimulation that can lead to many psychotic states.

Magnesium (Mg) and Calcium (Ca) – combat irritability, fidgeting, lack of sleep, hyperactivity and “wound-up” feeling.

Zinc (Zn) – protects against violence, depression, anxiety, hyperactivity, loss of coordination, fidgeting, weakened immune system for less impact of colds, infections. Blood sugar problems require high zinc. Excess of Copper and Lead deplete the body of zinc.

Phosphorous (P) – supports production of phosphatides, along with choline and inositol, that are fundamental to proper neural transmission, nerve and brain cell health and all cell membrane composition.

Boron (B) – studies show Boron may play a role in human brain function, alertness and cognitive performance.

Omega 3s such as EPA, DHA, ALA (See Nutritional Oils) – Cold water fish and flaxseed oil are rich sources. Produce a component of human brain tissue, and serve in the transmission of nerve impulses in the nervous system. Symptoms of deficiency include dry skin, lack of coordination, impaired vision, memory and learning ability and susceptibility to infections.

Omega 6 “Super Star”- GLA (See Nutritional Oils) – Borage seed oil is a rich source. Symptoms of deficiency include eczema or dry skin, dry eyes, blood sugar imbalance or diabetes, chronic fatigue, multiple sclerosis, lethargic mind, depression, mood swings and excessive thirst.
